Akköprü (Şekerpınarı Bridge)
Pozantı, Adana
A single-arched historic bridge over a tributary of the Seyhan in the Taurus Mountains, in use since at least the 9th century.
Its story
Because sources say the Abbasid caliph al-Ma'mun crossed this bridge on his Byzantine campaign in 833, the structure is thought to have been built before that date. The bridge is about 83 meters long and its arch span exceeds 10 meters. It is an important link on the historic road across the Taurus Mountains and has been repaired in various periods.
