Komana (Şar) Ancient City
Tufanbeyli, Adana
The remains of Cappadocian Komana, known for its great temple dedicated to the mother goddess Ma.
Its story
Komana was a temple city considered sacred since the Hittite period and ruled by priest-kings in the Roman period. Today the most striking remain in the village of Şar is the Roman-era temple facade known as "Ala Kapı". The settlement on the banks of the Zamantı, a tributary of the Seyhan, is explored intertwined with the village fabric.
