Its story
The mosque was built right next to Doğubayazıt Castle during the reign of Yavuz Sultan Selim (Selim I), after the region was incorporated into Ottoman territory following the 1514 Battle of Çaldıran. The slope was leveled and a terrace created with a retaining wall, and the building was erected on this terrace. Of cut stone, it has a simple plan with a central dome and a single minaret; it is known as the oldest mosque in Doğubayazıt and is also called the Cami-i Gevher Digar or the Şafii Mosque. Standing in front of the rocky slope among the remains of the old Bayazıt settlement, the mosque is a favorite of photographers for its view that frames it with İshak Paşa Palace and the castle.
