Village and rural life
Belisırma
Güzelyurt, Aksaray
A rest-stop village in the middle of Ihlara Valley, with trout restaurants under arbors on the banks of the Melendiz Stream and rock-cut churches around it.
Its story
Belisırma is a small village in the Güzelyurt district, recorded under this name since 1476. Reached by a walk of about 3–4 km from the Ihlara stairs, the village is the natural rest stop on the valley hike. Around it are Byzantine rock-cut churches such as Ala Kilise, Bezirhane, Karagedik, Direkli and Kırkdamaltı (Saint George). The donor inscription in the Kırkdamaltı Church, recorded in the name of the Seljuk sultan, shows the region's multicultural past. The village can also be reached by car.
