Its story
Hasandağı is a stratovolcano with two main craters, Büyük (Great) and Küçük (Little) Hasan; its lavas and tuffs played an important role in forming today's Cappadocian landscape. Its lower slopes are covered with oak groves up to 1,750 meters, and Yörük culture lives on in its yaylas (highland pastures). The classic climb starts from the village of Helvadere and the mountain hut and follows the ridge to the summit; the round trip takes about 9 hours in total. Summer is the best season; winter climbs and ski tours are done between December and April. From the summit the view extends as far as Tuz Gölü (Salt Lake).
