Its story
The rock-cut, single-nave, barrel-vaulted church is dated to the 9th century; in the Byzantine period it was extended inward and burial chambers were added. Today it is entered from the collapsed apse side. At the center of the large cross motif in the middle of the vault is a hand making a sign of blessing. The frescoes are thought to date from the second half of the 11th century; scenes such as the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Three Magi, the Baptism and the three youths in the furnace are rendered in a style dominated by gray tones.
