Its story
Construction of the dam on the Çubuk Stream began in 1930 to supply Ankara's drinking water, and it was opened by Atatürk on 3 November 1936. The concrete gravity dam is one of the symbols of the early Republic's engineering and urbanization vision. Having lost its function over time due to pollution and silting, the dam began holding water again at the end of 2021 after cleanup and wastewater works carried out from the 2010s onward. The lakeside park contains the Atatürk Pavilion and statues; the surroundings are an excursion area favored by Ankara residents for picnics and walks.
