Cumhuriyet Müzesi (Republic Museum, Second Parliament Building)
Altındağ, Ankara
The second parliament building, designed by architect Vedat Tek, which housed the Grand National Assembly of Turkey from 1924 to 1960.
Its story
Built for the Republican People's Party, the building was allocated to parliament in 1924 when the first parliament building proved inadequate. A characteristic example of the First National Architectural Movement, its facade features pointed arches, tile decoration and wide eaves. After parliament moved to its new building in 1960, the building served for a time as the CENTO headquarters, and it opened as the Republic Museum in 1981. Inside are the general assembly hall and documents from the early years of the Republic. Visiting it together with the War of Independence Museum allows you to compare the two parliamentary periods.
