Rahmi M. Koç Museum (Çengelhan)
Altındağ, Ankara
A museum in the 16th-century Çengelhan opposite Ankara Castle that presents the history of transport, industry and communication in an interactive way.
Its story
The museum is housed in Çengelhan, built in the 16th century during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, and the adjoining Safranhan. Restored by the Rahmi M. Koç Museum and Culture Foundation, the han opened in 2005 as Ankara's first industrial museum. Cars, motorcycles, steam engines, scientific instruments and recreations of old shops are displayed in the courtyard and arcades. A recreation of the small shop where Vehbi Koç began trading is one of the museum's most popular corners. With its interactive sections, it is well suited to families with children.
