Suluhan
Altındağ, Ankara
A historic Ankara han built in the early 16th century, with two courtyards and a small masjid in the middle.
Its story
The han is thought to have been commissioned between 1508 and 1511 by Hasan Paşa, who served under Bayezid II and Selim I; for this reason it also appears in old records as the Hasanpaşa Han. In the middle of the first courtyard of this two-story, two-courtyard masonry building is a raised masjid. It is known to have taken the name 'Suluhan' (Watered Han) when water was brought to it in the 17th century. Used in the Ottoman period for the trade in mohair, yarn and coffee, the han is once again used as a bazaar after a long restoration. It is one of the stops on the historic bazaar route between the Ulus Market Hall and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.
