Its story
The building, also known as the Hamşioğlu Rasim Bey Mansion, is in the Karagöl neighborhood on the Ardahan–Göle road. The Ottoman inscription on the entrance gives the date 1911; built at a time when the region was under Russian administration, the mansion is in the Baltic architectural style common in the area, with a dressed basalt facade decorated with pilasters. Inside, interconnecting rooms and halls and ornate ceilings stand out. On 3-5 and 7-9 January 1919 the congresses of the Ardahan National Council (Millî Şûra) met here; one of the early local organizations of the National Struggle took place in these halls. Used as a government building in the early years of the Republic and later for a long time as a hospital and health directorate, the building was registered in 1994 and today receives visitors as the Congress and City Museum.
