Its story
Putka Lake is a semi-marshy lake within the boundaries of Çamlıçatak village in the central district. Its reedy shores were long associated with cranes, and the lake became one of the spots local people visit to watch birds. Although cranes are said to have stopped staying here since 2010, after the Ardahan University campus was built right next to the lake, GoTürkiye promotes the lake as a stop that hosts many bird species. Thanks to its proximity to the city center, it is suitable for a short nature break and sunset photography. Because of its high altitude it freezes in winter; its liveliest seasons are spring and summer.
