Its story
According to ancient sources, Adramytteion was a port city founded by Adramys, son of the Lydian king Alyattes, and it gave its name to the gulf. One of the important cities of Mysia for sea trade and defense, Adramytteion was eventually moved inland because of raids, and its name evolved into today's Edremit. The remains of the old city lie among summer houses around Karataş Tepesi in Burhaniye's Ören neighborhood. Excavations in recent years have been bringing the city's walls and buildings to light.
