Bartın City Museum
Merkez, Bartın
A city museum in an 1885 former school and municipal building, telling Bartın's 4000-year history and daily life.
Its story
The Bartın City Museum is in a two-story historic building built in 1885 as an İptidai and Rüştiye school (primary and middle school), later used as an idadi (high school), a primary school and, between 1953 and 2008, as the municipal building. It opened on 27 January 2018 after a four-year restoration carried out on the municipality's initiative in cooperation with ÇEKÜL and the Union of Historic Towns. The museum tells of the city's history from the Kaskians to the present, shipbuilding, the Galla Bazarı, the artisans' bazaar, its architecture and its culinary culture. More than two thousand objects collected from the people of Bartın and oral history work are displayed.
