Its story
The zaviye (dervish lodge), in the middle of a cemetery overlooking the Tigris on the hill to the left of the bridge entrance in old Hasankeyf, consisted of a square-plan tomb, a tower at its corner and a rectangular masjid to its south. According to local tradition, İmam Abdullah was a descendant of the Prophet who died during the siege of Hasankeyf in the 7th century; the building was repaired many times from the Ayyubids to the late Ottoman period. Its carved wooden door is preserved in the Diyarbakır Museum. Because of the Ilısu Dam, the tomb section was moved to the new Culture Park in September 2018, followed by its minaret; about 400 graves around it were also relocated, and the remains kept in the museum were reburied in the new tomb in October 2019. With commemoration days held every year in early June, the zaviye is still an important place of pilgrimage.
