Vezirhan (Köprülü Mehmed Paşa Caravanserai)
Merkez, Bilecik
A staging complex of a han, mosque and hammam commissioned by Köprülü Mehmed Paşa in the 17th century; the building that gave the town its name.
Its story
Vezirhan is a staging post on the old road connecting Istanbul to Anatolia. In the mid-17th century Grand Vizier Köprülü Mehmed Paşa commissioned a complex here of a caravanserai, a mosque and a hammam, and the town took its name from this 'Vizier's Han'. The outer walls and arches of the large cut-stone caravanserai show that it was one of the largest staging hans of its time. Some of the mosque and the complex's other buildings are still in use. It is suitable for a short break on the Bilecik–Osmaneli journey.
