Its story
In the Aksakal hamlet of the village of Hazarşah in Solhan, about 4.5 km off the Solhan–Bingöl highway, the lake lies on flat ground surrounded on three sides by mountains and hills. Although it is a small lake of a few hundred square meters, it is said to be deep; fed from the bottom, its waters stay at almost the same level in summer and winter and feed the stream below the lake. What makes the lake unique are the islets that move independently on its surface: the intertwined roots of grasses, couch grass and aquatic plants hold the soil together to form floating masses, and stunted trees even grow on some of them. The islets, shifting with the wind, offer visitors an interesting sight. The site was registered as a natural monument by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks on 5 August 2003.
