Village and rural life
Zeytinliköy (Agios Theodoros)
Gökçeada, Çanakkale
One of the island's oldest settlements, a living Greek village with stone houses and a coffeehouse square.
Its story
Zeytinliköy, built a few kilometers west of central Gökçeada at about 100 meters elevation, is one of the oldest island villages still permanently inhabited. Formerly Agios Theodoros, it has three Greek Orthodox churches and a minority school; in recent years its population has grown with returnees. Stone houses, narrow streets and the coffeehouses on the square make up the village's fabric. Tasting dibek coffee and island sweets in the village coffeehouses is a tradition.
