Its story
The Safa Mosque is also known as the Parlı Mosque, İpariye or Palo. Although its exact construction date is unknown, it is accepted to have been built by the Akkoyunlu ruler Uzun Hasan (1454–1478); a repair in 1531–1532 added Ottoman traces to the building. Evliya Çelebi wrote that its walls gave off the scent of musk in rainy weather. The single-domed prayer hall with an octagonal drum receives light from twenty-four windows; the muqarnas stone mihrab and the minbar with geometric decoration are the highlights of the interior. The minaret at the northeast corner of the mosque is regarded as one of the most ornate minarets in Sur and is a place to stop for photos.
