Its story
Makam Dağı, or Mount Zülküf, is a mountain rising about 5 kilometers north of the Ergani district center, recognizable from afar by its twin peaks; its summit is about 1,500 meters. The original construction date of the shrine (makam) of the Prophet Zülküf (Dhul-Kifl) at the summit is unknown; the building, demolished in 1926, was rebuilt in 1958. Some local people believe the prophet's grave is in Eğil, others that it is here. On a nearby rock are the ruined Church of the Virgin Mary and remains belonging to Ergani Castle. The purple 'makam flower' that blooms on the rocky slopes in late April and early May is considered special by local people. From the summit there is a bird's-eye view of the Ergani plain.
