Şükrü Paşa Monument and Balkan Wars Museum
Merkez, Edirne
The memorial tomb of Şükrü Paşa, commander of the defense of Edirne, and the Balkan Wars Museum in the Kıyık Redoubt.
Its story
Mehmed Şükrü Paşa defended Edirne against a months-long siege in the Balkan War of 1912–13. The monument built in his name was completed in 1998, and the same year the paşa's remains were moved here from Istanbul. The Kıyık Redoubt right next to it was built between 1867–1871 for the city's defense; with its barracks, magazines and artillery positions, it has been arranged as the Balkan Wars Museum. Together with the Hıdırlık Redoubt, it is an important stop telling the city's war history.
