Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art
Merkez, Edirne
A museum in the madrasa rooms of the Selimiye Complex displaying Ottoman-era crafts, calligraphy and Kırkpınar memorabilia.
Its story
The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art is housed in one of the corner madrasas of the Selimiye Complex. The domed madrasa rooms display weapons, manuscripts, calligraphy panels, dervish lodge (tekke) items and objects of daily life. In the section devoted to Edirne's Kırkpınar tradition, photographs of famous wrestlers and their leather breeches (kıspet) can be seen. It is a short but informative stop that can easily be added to a visit to the Selimiye.
