Its story
Üç Şerefeli Mosque was built in the first half of the 15th century, in the reign of Murad II. Unlike the mosques before it, it has a large, arcaded courtyard with an ablution fountain and a tall, large central dome. Four minarets, each decorated differently, rise at the four corners of the courtyard. Each balcony of the three-balconied (üç şerefeli) minaret that gives the mosque its name is reached by a separate staircase. Architectural historians see the building as the forerunner of the great imperial mosques of Istanbul.
