Its story
Mamahatun, the old name of Tercan, comes from Melike Mama Hatun, daughter of the Saltukid ruler İzzeddin Saltuk II, who headed the beylik from 1191. Part of the complex she commissioned, the caravanserai was built entirely of cut stone in the early 13th century. The building, about 51x51 meters, has cylindrical towers at its corners and buttresses on its facades; around the courtyard, entered through the portal on the east facade, are rooms and iwans, with long stables on the north and south sides. The high iwans at the west end and alterations made in the Ottoman period show that the building was used for a long time. Evliya Çelebi described the complex when he passed through in 1647. The caravanserai has been comprehensively restored in recent years; the Mama Hatun Kümbet and hammam are right nearby.
