Its story
The Battle of Otlukbeli was fought on 11 August 1473 between the armies of the Ottoman ruler Mehmed II and the Akkoyunlu ruler Uzun Hasan. Ending in victory for the Ottoman army, which used its firearms effectively, the battle changed the balance of power in Eastern Anatolia and accelerated the weakening of the Akkoyunlu state. The monument, opened on 11 August 2008, the 535th anniversary of the battle, is built of cut stone on a hill near Lake Otlukbeli. Made up of a six-step podium, crescent-shaped walls, reliefs of the two rulers, a flag relief, a fountain and an inscription, the monument is dedicated to those who lost their lives on both sides. From the hill you can see the plains where the battle took place and the lake.
