Its story
The city's archaeological collection was first displayed in 1944 in the Yakutiye Madrasa, then moved to the Çifte Minareli Madrasa and to a separate museum building opened in 1968. The new Erzurum Museum building was built in the urban renewal area around the Üç Kümbetler and opened on 19 August 2023. The exhibitions feature artifacts spanning from the Chalcolithic, Bronze and Iron Ages to the Hellenistic, Roman, Seljuk, Ottoman and Republican periods; a mammoth fossil found in the region is one of the most popular pieces. Nearly 20,000 artifacts are registered in the museum's inventory. It can easily be combined on the same trip with the Üç Kümbetler and the Çifte Minareli Madrasa.
