Its story
The castle on the hill dominating the Pasinler plain takes its name from Hasan, son of Hacı Togay of the Sutay (of Mongol origin), who had the building rebuilt in the 14th century; Hasan's grave is reported to be within the walls. The town's old name, Hasankale, comes from here. The area is remembered for the victory won by the Seljuk army against Byzantium at the Battle of Pasinler in 1048; in the following centuries the castle changed hands among the Seljuk, Ilkhanid, Karakoyunlu, Akkoyunlu, Safavid and Ottoman rulers. After the Ottomans took the region in the 16th century, they largely renovated the castle. As it is right near the hot springs in the district center, it can be seen on the same trip.
