Its story
The hot springs in the Pasinler district center, just south of Hasankale, at an elevation of about 1,869 m, are among the oldest thermal centers in the region. The oldest part, known as the Büyük Kaplıca (Great Spa), is reported to have been built in 1390 and repaired in 1749 and 1892; its water is around 40–41 °C. The Küçük Kaplıca (Small Spa), with cooler water, has also been used for centuries. The waters are rich in bicarbonate, chloride and sodium, with a carbonated, mineral-rich composition. Because of its location on the Erzurum–Iran route, it is easily reached by both rail and road; together with the nearby castle it makes a half-day trip.
