Its story
Dülük (Doliche) is an ancient city north of the city, in the neighborhood of the same name, referred to as one of the oldest continuously inhabited places. In the Hittite period it was a stop on the road linking the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and a sanctuary of the storm god Teshub; in the Hellenistic period this cult became Zeus Dolichenus, and in the Roman period Jupiter Dolichenus, who spread to all corners of the empire, especially among soldiers. Underground Mithras temples, rock tombs and quarries can be seen in the city. The area with the remains lies within DKMP's Dülükbaba Nature Park; the pine forest is also used for picnics and walks.
