Its story
The mosque in the center of the Süleymaniye neighborhood is accepted as the first building of the settlement founded near new silver deposits in the time of Suleiman the Magnificent (1520–1566); its exact construction date is unknown. Go Türkiye states that it was commissioned during Suleiman's Baghdad campaign. The prayer hall is divided into three aisles by six wooden posts; it is reported that the single-balcony minaret has survived in its original form. According to Gümüşhane University sources, a small complex formed around the mosque over time with buildings such as a tomb, a graveyard, a fountain, a library and a madrasa. The mosque is the natural starting point of a tour of Old Gümüşhane; the gravestones in the graveyard and the surrounding buildings are also worth seeing.
