Its story
The Tomara Waterfall is in the valley of the Tomara Deresi (Tomara Creek), a tributary of the Kelkit Çayı, about 21 km from Şiran, near the village of Seydibaba. The waters feeding the waterfall emerge from the slope as an abundant karstic spring; because it emerges from many outlets, it is also locally called Kırk Gözeler (Forty Springs). Rather than a sheer drop, the water flows over a sloping rock face, falling from heights of about 14–22 meters in different sections; sources give the waterfall's width as around 35 meters. It takes its name from the tomara (ıspıt) plant that grows in the area. The site was declared a nature park in 2011 and laid out for visitors. In the summer months its cool valley is popular for picnics and walks.
