Its story
The Tuz Dağı (Salt Mountain) in Tuzluca consists of thick layers of rock salt formed millions of years ago. The galleries opened in the area, where salt has been mined for centuries, resemble small rooms connected by tunnels; the Spanish envoy Clavijo, on his way to Timur in the 15th century, also mentioned salt production in the area. Part of the caves, long used as a salt production center, was arranged through a project of the governorship, the district governorate and Iğdır University and opened to visitors in 2021 under the name Salt Therapy Center. No matter how hot it is outside, it is about 12°C inside all year round. It is promoted as being good for the respiratory tract; such effects are no substitute for medical treatment. Visitors usually stay for a few hours.
