Emirgan Grove
Sarıyer, İstanbul
A historic grove on a slope overlooking the Bosphorus, with pavilions and ponds, known for its tulip displays in April.
Its story
The grove developed on land granted to Emirgüneoğlu in the 17th century and was laid out in the 19th century as the property of Khedive İsmail Paşa of Egypt. The Yellow, Pink and White pavilions within it are examples of 19th-century wooden pavilion architecture. Among the trees are ponds, cascades and wide lawns. Every spring, millions of tulips bloom here as part of the İstanbul Tulip Festival.
