Fenerbahçe Park and Lighthouse
Kadıköy, İstanbul
A seaside park on Kadıköy's headland jutting into the Marmara, surrounded by a historic lighthouse and pine trees.
Its story
The Fenerbahçe headland has been one of the city's important recreation spots since the Byzantine period; the lighthouse at its tip, on the site of a 16th-century tower, is still in use today. The neighborhood takes its name from this lighthouse (fener) and the gardens (bahçe) around it. Shaded by pine trees, the park, with seaside walking paths and tea gardens, is a favorite of families at weekends. From the park you can see the Princes' Islands and Moda Bay.
