Beykoz, İstanbul
A historic village on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, known for the tradition of yogurt with powdered sugar on its pier square.
Its story
Kanlıca was one of the Bosphorus's favorite villages in the Ottoman period, with its waterside mansions and groves. Right next to the pier is the İskender Paşa Mosque, a work of Mimar Sinan. Kanlıca is associated with its thick, cream-topped yogurt, known in the city for centuries, and the tradition of eating it with powdered sugar. From the pier square you can see the Bosphorus, the Rumeli Fortress opposite and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge.
