Museum of Innocence (Masumiyet Müzesi)
Beyoğlu, İstanbul
A small, original museum in Çukurcuma made up of objects from Orhan Pamuk's novel of the same name.
Its story
The museum was opened in 2012 by Nobel laureate author Orhan Pamuk in a 19th-century house in Çukurcuma. Designed simultaneously with the novel, the museum displays everyday objects from 1950s–1970s İstanbul in display cases corresponding to each chapter of the book. The museum won the European Museum of the Year Award in 2014. Its atmosphere becomes more meaningful when visited together with the antique-shop streets of Beyoğlu.
