Panorama 1453 History Museum
Zeytinburnu, İstanbul
A history museum that brings the 1453 conquest to life with a giant 360-degree panoramic painting and sound effects.
Its story
The museum opened in 2009 in Topkapı Culture Park, just outside the land walls. The panoramic painting beneath the domed ceiling of the main hall shows the morning of 29 May 1453 as a whole, with the siege lines, cannons and walls. Sound effects and life-size objects placed in the foreground are designed to reduce the distance between the painting and the viewer. Sections on the lower floor describe the stages of the siege and the weapons of the period.
