Village and rural life
Polonezköy
Beykoz, İstanbul
A village founded by Polish immigrants in the 19th century, known for its forest-ringed country houses and Polish culture.
Its story
The village was founded in 1842 when immigrants from Poland settled here with the support of the Polish Prince Adam Czartoryski, and for many years it was known as Adampol. The village's residents are also connected with the Polish units that fought on the Ottoman side in the Crimean War. The Church of the Virgin Mary and the Zofia Ryzy Memorial House in the village keep the Polish heritage alive. The surrounding forest is protected as the Polonezköy Nature Park.
