Its story
It was built by Mimar Sinan in the 1570s in the name of Grand Vizier Sokollu Mehmed Paşa and his wife İsmihan Sultan. In the building, which makes masterful use of the sloping site, the madrasa is arranged around the courtyard, from which stairs lead up to the mosque. The qibla wall and the surroundings of the mihrab and minbar are covered with İznik tiles from their finest period. Above the mihrab, the minbar door and the entrance door are pieces of black stone believed to have been brought from the Kaaba.
