Kyme Ancient City
Aliağa, İzmir
A port city on the shore of Nemrut Bay, known as the largest city of the Aeolis region.
Its story
Kyme was regarded as the largest and most important of the twelve Aeolian cities. According to ancient writers, Hesiod's father emigrated from here to Greece, and people from Kyme were among the founders of the city of Cumae in Italy. Excavations have uncovered an agora, a theater, a temple of Isis and harbor structures. Despite being close to Aliağa's industrial areas, the remains on the shore make an impressive archaeological site.
