Myrina Ancient City
Aliağa, İzmir
A city of Aeolis at the mouth of the Güzelhisar Çayı, famous for its terracotta figurines.
Its story
Myrina is a port city that, according to legend, took its name from an Amazon queen, and was one of the twelve cities of Aeolis. The city was founded at the mouth of the Güzelhisar Çayı, which flows into the Gulf of Çandarlı. The elegant terracotta figurines found in 19th-century excavations in the necropolis are displayed today in many European museums. Visible remains at the site are limited; it is a stop on the region's route of Aeolian cities.
