Its story
Mencilis Cave is within the boundaries of the village of Bulak, attached to central Karabük, and with a length of more than about 6 km it is among Türkiye's longest caves. It consists of three interconnected levels; the spring emerging from the lowest level is used as Safranbolu's drinking water. The main entrance, 75 meters above the valley floor, is reached by a staircase of 148 steps. On the middle level, opened to tourism, stalactites, stalagmites, columns and curtain dripstones are seen in abundance; on the lower level, an underground stream forms siphons and lakes. As the inside of the cave is cool, you need to take a cardigan even in the summer months.
