Derbe (Kerti Höyük)
Merkez, Karaman
Kerti Höyük, accepted as the site of the ancient city of Derbe, visited by Paul on his missionary journeys.
Its story
Derbe appears in the Acts of the Apostles as one of the cities visited by Paul and Barnabas. The inscription found by M. Ballance in 1956, bearing the phrase 'the council and people of Derbe', shows most strongly that the city is Kerti Höyük, about 3.5 km north of the village of Ekinözü. Finds ranging from the Bronze Age to the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods have been identified on the mound. Today the site looks like a mound with no visitor arrangements; it is mentioned on faith tourism routes.
