Its story
Lake Kuyucuk is about 40 km from Kars and 15 km from Akyaka, right next to the village of Kuyucuk from which it takes its name. The shallow lake, 1,627 m above sea level, and its surroundings are on the Ramsar list as a wetland of international importance. Because it lies on the Eurasia–Africa migration route, species such as the ruddy shelduck (angıt), black-winged stilt, black-necked grebe and Eurasian coot can be seen in large flocks, especially during the spring and autumn migrations; it has been recorded that 20,000 ruddy shelducks were counted in a single day. Kafkas University and the Kuzey Doğa Society carry out bird ringing work at the site.
