Its story
The castle was built in the Byzantine period on limestone rocks dominating its surroundings, in order to control the Zamantı and Elbistan roads. After the Byzantines, it was also used, repaired and enlarged by the Danishmendids, Seljuks and Ottomans. Masons' marks can be seen on the large cut stones from the Seljuk repairs. In the part near the bastions, a band of black stone runs the whole length of the castle. It has a total of 13 towers: nine round, one angular and three flat; the large round bastion to the north was added later. At the foot of the castle stands the Emir Melik Gazi Kümbet.
