Its story
Aşağı Pınar Höyüğü (Aşağı Pınar Mound) lies in a bend of the Haydardere about 3 kilometers south of the city and was identified in 1980 in a surface survey by Mehmet Özdoğan. Unlike Anatolian mounds, the settlement did not grow upward but expanded by shifting westward over time; for this reason it shows 'horizontal stratigraphy'. Excavations have uncovered Neolithic and Chalcolithic house plans and a village layout. Information from the site is considered an important source for understanding the spread of farming from Anatolia to Europe.
