Çinili Mosque (Tiled Mosque)
Merkez, Kütahya
An octagonal mosque designed and built by the painter Ahmet Yakupoğlu, clad inside and out entirely in Kütahya tiles.
Its story
The mosque was designed by the painter and tile artist Ahmet Yakupoğlu and opened for worship in 1975. Yakupoğlu himself designed all the exterior motifs of the small, octagonal, domed building, which references Central Asian Turkish architecture. It is the city's most colorful stop for those who want to see Kütahya tiles at the scale of a building.
