Kossuth House Museum
Merkez, Kütahya
The 18th-century Kütahya house where the Hungarian freedom leader Lajos Kossuth lived in exile in 1850–51.
Its story
This typical 18th-century Kütahya house is where Lajos Kossuth, one of the leaders of the 1848 Hungarian Revolution, stayed for a year with his family after taking refuge in the Ottoman Empire. Kossuth wrote here the draft constitution he prepared for Hungary, and also wrote a Turkish grammar book. A museum since 1982, the house displays his personal belongings and objects of Hungarian culture.
