Its story
The mound just south of the Tavşanlı district center is known as 'the Heart of Kütahya' because of its heart-like shape seen from the air. Traces of settlement go back about 8,000 years and continue until the end of the Bronze Age; it is considered one of the largest settlement areas in western Anatolia. Excavations began in September 2021 under Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Fidan of Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University and continue with the status of an excavation authorized by presidential decree. Finds such as seal impressions, bronze tools and ceramics shed light on the region's trade links with Central Anatolia.
