Historic Murat Bridge
Merkez, Muş
A historic stone bridge of Seljuk origin crossing the Murat River on the Muş–Varto road, with 12 spans and a length of about 143 meters.
Its story
The first construction of the bridge over the Murat River is attributed to the Seljuk period, the 13th century; its exact construction date is not known. The bridge was repaired several times over the centuries and took its present appearance largely from repairs in the 19th century; its marble inscription is thought to belong to a repair. With a length of about 143 meters, a width of 4.8 meters and 12 spans, it is one of the largest historic bridges in the region. Illuminated in 2010, the bridge's surroundings were landscaped as a park in 2020. It is about 12–15 km from the city center; with its evening lights and river view it is a lovely stop for photography.
